Stronger Together
Trees have a hidden layer most people never notice. The photo shown is of the Basswood tree.
Just beneath the outer bark is the inner bark. It’s the tree’s nutrient highway.
With a little work, the bark can be stripped away, soaked in water, and left to rot just enough to separate the inner bark fibers. This process is called retting.
Once those fibers loosen, they can be twisted or braided into cordage and used as string, rope, and binding material.
Something that once carried life through the tree now becomes something that holds things together.
On their own, those fibers are weak and easy to break. But twist them together and they become incredibly strong.
Scripture says:
“Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” — Ecclesiastes 4:12
We’re the same way. We’re not meant to do life alone. The enemy would love to keep us isolated.
Strength isn’t found in isolation, it’s found in connection. It’s found in lives woven together with each other, and with God.
