STUDY VERSE

INTENTIONAL READING PRACTICES FOR ONE VERSE
(3–5 core habits)

  1. Slow the verse down
Read it aloud more than once. Pause between phrases. Let the verse set the pace instead of rushing to understanding.

  2. Attend to the exact words
Notice every word as intentional, not filler. Pay special attention to verbs, conditions, and contrasts.

  3. Read with submission, not control
Approach the verse assuming it has the right to correct you.

  4. Pray the verse back to God
Before analyzing, echo the verse back to God in prayer. This aligns the heart before engaging the mind and keeps the verse from becoming merely informational.

  5. Sit with the verse briefly
Allow a moment of quiet. Repeat one phrase slowly. Let it settle. Let the Scripture “sink from the mind into the heart.”

Jeremiah 17:7-8

7 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
    whose confidence is in him.
8 They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
    its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”
